Straws can go and suck it!
Do you recall seeing ads selling metal straws popping up on your social media pages, especially in recent times, and thinking to yourself: who would buy these straws?
Spoiler alert: you, in the very near future.
That's because the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan will be banning the use of plastic straws.
According to a report by The Star Online
, the ban will officially take effect on 1 January 2019.
The ban on plastic straws is in line with the state's goal of being a green state, its secretary-general Datuk Seri Adnan Mohd Ikhsan told the news portal.
The state banned the use of polystyrene food packaging and plastic bags in September last year, and banning plastic straws will bring them closer to the goal.
And if businesses don't adhere to the new ruling, then, boy, they're in for a very bad time.
Adnan said those who continue giving out plastic straws after 1 January will risk getting their business licenses revoked or terminated.
Not only that, they could be fined, have their trading items confiscated or - gasp!- even imprisoned!
They're definitely not messing around, aren't they?
You have no choice but to invest in a metal straw now, boys and girls.
