Hide your credit cards, husbands and boyfriends.

In case you were wondering what the government plans to do with the items seized from residences linked to former Prime Minister Najib Razak -- said to be valued up to RM1.1bil -- Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has an answer that will probably make your wife/girlfriend really happy.

In an exclusive interview with Associated Press, Guan Eng said the government will sell most of the 12,000 pieces of jewellery, 567 high-end handbags, 423 luxury watches and 234 sunglasses seized from the 64-year-old's residences.

The money will then probably be used to pay off some of the nation's RM1 trillion debt.

Bye handbags, bye jewellery.
The move is only fair, said Guan Eng, as the 1MDB investment fund set up by the former premier has reportedly racked up a RM50bil debt from alleged mismanagement and theft.

An eye for an eye, you see.

“We will try to monetise whatever we can, but bear in mind it is nothing compared to the amount that has been robbed from the state,” Guan Eng was quoted by the news agency as saying.

If you have your eyes set on Rosmah Mansor's RM1.6mil Bijan handbag, we say get your credit cards ready.
