Tired of standing in line for hours just to replace and collect your I/C? Well, we have good news for those who are planning to get their MyKad replaced soon.
The National Registration Department (NRD) has announced that Malaysians will soon be able to collect their MyKads within 45 minutes
after submitting their application.
The new time-saving initiative will kick off effective 1 April 2018
“Back then, it used to take months when it came to getting a new identity card after applying. Then the time was shortened to a month, and then again to five days,” Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told The Star.
However, the 45 minutes time frame is only available at selected NRD offices nationwide that have their own MyKad printing machines.
And in case you're wondering, only 56 out of 231
offices in the country are equipped with the printer. So, don’t go and get angry at the officer if it’s not done within 45 minutes, OK? Make sure you check with them beforehand.
The department is also constantly upgrading its system every year to combat imitation or fraud, Hamidi told the news portal.
So, if you're still using you standard six MyKad, it's a sign that you should get it changed ASAP.
