At around 11.50pm on Tuesday, a massive fire broke out at the Employees Provident Fund (or KWSP) building at Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya.
The Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to the scene and no casualties were reported so far. However, about 40 per cent of the six-storey building was destroyed after it was engulfed in flames.
Photos and videos of the blaze made rounds on social media, which sparked some concern among Malaysians.
Apart from security concerns, a lot of Malaysians were worried that their savings and personal data documents were potentially burnt to ashes.
EPF then issued a statement
to address the increasing concern.
“We would like to assure members that there has been no compromise to the data integrity or members' savings in any manner,” EPF said in a statement.
“As the safety of customers and staff is our prime concern, the building has been totally evacuated, and the office and counter services are closed until further notice.”
The EPF branch has been closed until further notice. The company is monitoring the situation and will provide an update once the branch is back in operations.
EPF also urged its members and employers who wish to perform any transaction to visit or contact their nearest branch. Alternatively, you can also contact the EPF Contact Management Centre at 03-8922 6000
if you have any enquiries.
