Tomorrow will be the day Donald Trump spends his first night at the White House as the new President of the United States, and an 18-year-old Malaysian has received an exclusive invitation to his inauguration. Asher Paul Ang, who hails from Rawang, Selangor, is currently a third-year Political Science Bachelor’s Degree student at the Dallas Baptist University in Texas.
Ang has been rewarded with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness tomorrow’s historical event thanks to his active participation in the College Republicans Club, of which he is the newly-elected president. Together with his fellow club members, he had volunteered as a telephone canvasser during the presidential election campaign.
There will be more than one million people expected to attend the inauguration. However, Ang was lucky enough to receive a ticket that seats him right behind the congressmen’s VIP area at Union Square, which is priced at more than US$600 (RM2,670)! He hopes to be able to connect with fellow College Republicans as well as VIPs during the event.
“It may be difficult to meet President Trump but if I get the chance, I’ll ask for a ‘wefie’ with him,” he told The Star
. “I also hope to ask him about his perspective on strengthening diplomatic relations with Malaysia and other ASEAN countries,” he added. The exposure to the political scene in the States will be a huge learning experience for him, of which he wishes to apply in Malaysia in the future.
The young lad plans to attend law school after graduating in May next year, majoring in civil law. His ultimate dream is to become a diplomatic ambassador and political advisor because he believes that politics is an excellent way to influence policies for people and bring positive changes to the masses.
Wishing him luck for that Trump selfie tomorrow!
