On Monday evening, an unidentified man stormed into a Zurich mosque and opened fire at unsuspecting victims who were praying. The incident injured three people according to the Swiss police.

The suspect, whom according to witnesses was in his 30s and was wearing dark clothing and a dark wool cap, fled the scene after his shooting rampage took place nearby the main train station in Switzerland’s financial capital.

Three of the victims, Somalian men aged 30, 35, and 56, were rushed to the hospital for immediate help after the incident which left two of the men critically injured.

The Swiss police has collected evidence from the Islamic Centre on Zurich's Eisgasse and will make more details available soon. It is currently unclear what the motive of the attack was, and whether the Islamic centre or any of the other businesses were the target of the attack.

Witnesses told Reuters that the Islamic center was regularly used as a mosque especially by Somalis. “We never once had a problem. We never had anyone come and say why are you here. We never had that,” said Abukar Abshirow, a Somalian Muslim who regularly goes to pray at the mosque.

According to The Star, Wisma Putra has confirmed that no Malaysians were injured during the shooting incident.
