Pi Mana? The Vault KL

Find out what Rojak Daily thinks of Patricia K's bar, The Vault KL in Hartamas.

Pi Mana? The Vault KL

Welcome to the inaugural Rojak Daily section we’re calling “Pi Mana?” In it we bring you on a virtual tour of some of KL’s best establishments. We tell you what it’s like in there, and we tell you how much you’re going to spend. Also, if it’s even worth the trip.

A speakeasy

The Vault KL is on 5, Jalan Sri Hartamas 7 and it’s located on the second floor. There are no signs outside indicating where the entrance is so we’ll leave that fun bit to you. Hint: if you see Aunty Nat, you’re close by. Parking isn’t a problem here.

Going in

The interior has a masculine presence. (Image: All is Amazing)

It’s all about exclusivity and the romanticism of the prohibition era here and that’s what you’ll get at The Vault. The experience begins at the stairs: black wire mesh covers the walls and makes you feel like you’re entering an underground bunker… upstairs. Once you reach the top you see the eponymous vault door with a sliding slot for the bouncers to get a look at you. They don't actually look at each patron before they come in which is a shame... Maybe once they do secret password parties in the future. Please credit us for the idea!

The posh underground theme continues inside with plush leather seats lining the walls and a DJ console at the end hidden behind an antique study table. It’s a classy establishment so the dress code is covered shoes with long pants at least. It’s an intimate space that can comfortably accommodate 80 people but there are plans for an expansion to another two floors upwards. One will hold a kitchen and another, a dance floor. As many of you already know, this is DJ Patricia K’s bar and the music selection here is top-notch.

Our recommendations

Image: All is Amazing

This is the place to go if you need an excuse to dress up in fancy clothes, listen to good music, and drink classy cocktails. Besides a menu of assorted spirits, you’re going to want to come here for the cocktails. There is no food here at the time of writing, but that will be remedied in the coming months. To make things easy for you, we’re going to offer our top five picks for The Vault:

1.       Ron’s Cloud (RM42)

Made with Ron Zacapa rum, this concoction is a sweet and sour cloud of happiness.

2.       The Erik (RM42)

Named after one of the mixologists there, the Erik is made with cili padi and leaves a spicy kick after each sip.

3.       The Vault Heist (RM38)

What’s a vault without a good heist story? It’s made with vodka infused with lemon grass (made in-house) on top of other tropical juices. It’s refreshing.

4.       Whisky Marmalade Sour (RM46)

A twist on the traditional whisky sour, the Vault mixes blended Scotch whisky with their homemade orange marmalade.

5.       Passion Fruit Martini (RM34)

Served with a cut of passion fruit, this is the sweetest drink and one that will appeal to the ladies. Watch out for the kick after.

Tuesdays are ladies night with RM20 cocktails and there are five different DJs serving each night from Tuesday to Saturday. Head to their Facebook page to find out who is spinning and when. If you’re the spending kind you can get pretty rare bottles here from the bar and if you’re the beer drinking kind we advise you to drink your beer elsewhere. There's a premium on your beer here.

Too Long; Didn’t Read

Come for: Good music, exotic cocktails, fresh chilled out environment.

Not for: The drinking kaki who just want beers and peanuts
