If you've abandoned everything you learned in school about the constitutional monarchy system practised Malaysia, here's a quick refresher: there are seven hereditary monarchies based on agnatic primogeniture, i.e., Kedah, Kelantan, Johor, Perlis, Pahang, Selangor and Terengganu. The Perak throne rotates among three branches of the royal family while the state of  Negeri Sembilan is an elective monarchy. All rulers are given the title Sultan while the ruler of Negeri Sembilan is known as Yang Di Pertuan Besar and the ruler of Perlis is styled Raja instead. Here's the list of all the Sultan's official residences, the official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and his holiday home in Putrajaya:

Istana Abu Bakar Pahang:

Istana Alam Shah, Selangor:

Istana Anak Bukit, Kedah:

Istana Arau, Perlis:

Istana Bukit Serene, Johor:

Istana Iskandariah, Perak:

Istana Negeri, Kelantan:

Istana Syarqiyyah, Terengganu:

Istana Melawati, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's Holiday Home:

Istana Negara, official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong:

We've left out the Yang di-Pertua Negeri's residences as, by this list, they aren't technically Sultans. Check back and we might do the residences of the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister.
