Dear neighbours, we owe you an apology

OMJ : Oh My Jiran!
When was the last time you spoke to your neighbour? Are you on good terms with them? We find these questions hard to answer because home is like an inn to us. But guess what, here’s the thing we probably didn’t know what our neighbour had done for us. When we go for a vacation, it’s your neighbour who looks after your house. So, why are we bottling up our frustration towards them?

Labelling them as busybodies. We are living in the same neighbourhood and they need to know what we are up to. We do agree sometimes we encounter unreliable neighbours who don’t even care about our existence which, in other words, the ignorant ones but putting a label on them isn’t really helping. Hey, not all neighbours are unreliable you see. Nosy? That’s because they care. Pfft.

Stop making assumptions. We should have known that we are normal human beings who can’t get away from making assumptions. It is true indeed that we, Malaysians, love making assumptions. Like they know us or something. The Arabic verse once says Husnuzon which means to have nice thoughts toward others.

Being mean to your neighbour's pet. Guilty? Oh my God, yessssss! We are mounted with guilt because of our neighbour’s cat. It’s frustrating when God knows whose pet keeps pooping in our garden. Oh why just why! We’re sure most of us had done this but you know what, we're really sorry for doing that. We shouldn’t be throwing slippers to pets in the first place and as a considerate neighbour as well as a human being, be nice to our neighbours’ pets, please. Even though they accidentally or intentionally pooped in your garden or in your vase *wink wink*

Occupying the parking spot. You see, this may sound petty but when we live with neighbours, this can be a major issue – MAJOR ISSUE. Errrr, unless you’re living in a bungalow outskirts of town. We don’t have a say on that because the land is yours, honey! Eventually, when we have more than one vehicle, we need SPACE! That’s the #1 problem when it comes to parking spots. Especially when you are living in a terrace or town houses.

Anyway, it won’t hurt us if we’re being nice to our neighbours. What goes around comes around, y’know! Some of us get irritated with our neighbours just like in the episode of Surely Malaysian. Watch it on HelloCentral.today now!
