When we mention rom coms, a couple of classics come to mind: 'The Notebook', '50 First Dates', 'Noting Hill' and 'When Harry Met Sally', to name a few.
But if you're a true rom com fan, you must have probably watched 'Sweet Home Alabama' a couple of million times.
The movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas about a big town girl returning home to her village boy ex-husband quickly gained a cult following when it was released back in 2002.
If you're one of those people who loved 'Sweet Home Alabama', we suggest you sit down for this piece of news: a sequel might be coming.
According to entertainment website People
, 48-year-old Lucas recently revealed that he's more than ready to do a sequel.
“I’m up for it. The director [Andy Tennant] is absolutely up for it. I spoke to him about it a couple of times recently," he was quoted as saying.
One of the storylines that was discussed include Lucas' character Jake staying back in Alabama, while Witherspoon's character Melanie is in New York with their kids and they are divorced.
“And Patrick Dempsey’s character is still in the picture. But that’s just a proposal,” he revealed.
Lucas also went as far as saying that Tennat already “has a script and a development he has done”, but it doesn't mean that 'Sweet Home Alabama 2' is a done deal.
So, what's holding up the plan to announce the sequel? The answer to that question is Reese Witherspoon.
Lucas told the entertainment website that the Witherspoon holds the power to make or break the sequel.
“So look, I throw it out to you, Reese. I think the person who’s the one to put it together is Reese, so I’m hoping. Who knows?
"She’s got a lot of irons in the fire, to say the least. Hopefully, this is one of them,” he told People.
What does Witherspoon think, though?
Back in 2016, the 43-year-old actress said in a live Facebook Q&A session that she's "on board" to play two of her favourite characters: Elle Woods from 'Legally Blonde' and - yep, you guessed it! - Melanie.
“I would happily make 'Sweet Home Alabama 2',” she was quoted as saying.
So, what are you waiting for, Reese?! Please say yes and make our dreams come true!
