This year is set to be bittersweet one, with the end of Marvel's 22-movie franchise, 'Avengers', followed by the final episode of 'Game of Thrones' (GOT), which is just a few more weeks away.
But despair not as there’s still some light in life, at least for 'GOT' fans.
According to author of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ (the books that the series is based on) George R. R. Martin, there had been five spin-offs in development; three of which are moving forward including one that is set to be shot end of this year.
“The one I am not supposed to call THE LONG NIGHT will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer,” he wrote in his blog.
R. R. Martin, who has yet to finish writing the whole ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ saga (will he ever though?), called the spin-offs "successors" as he dislikes the more popular term often used to refer to books or shows created to milk an already popular one.
He also wrote that he can't say what the show that is set to be shot soon is about, but encouraged readers to pick up a copy of ‘Fire and Blood’, and come up with their own theories.
Synopsis on Amazon shows that the book is set 300 years before the events of 'GOT' and mainly focuses on House Targaryen, beginning from the time of Aegon the Conqueror.
If the new show is indeed based off the book, it’ll be really cool to see how the fictional world was when dragons still ruled the skies.
'Fire and Blood' is supposed to be a two-part book but part two is yet to be released. Let’s hope it does within our lifetime!
In the meantime, what does HBO, the producers of the series, have to say about Martin's relevation about the spin-offs?
There’ll be at least one show that’s confirmed to be released, if this report is anything to go by.
So, be prepared to possibly have all your burning questions that involves House Targaryen, dragons and such to get answered soon!
Even if the show turns out to be about something completely different, we’re sure it’ll still be epic.
