Ever since we were introduced to Netflix, we basically bid goodbye to our social life because who would've known that a streaming platform can be so addictive?
Just like how Death Eaters sucked the happiness out of wizards, witches, and muggles, Netflix has sucked the social soul out of us.
So, if you’re still new to Netflix or you’ve run out of ideas on what to watch, we’ve got a few fresh recommendations that should get you binge-watching in no time.
#1 The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
We know that you may have some reservations on this show with the fear that it might ruin your favourite 90s sitcom, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but give it the benefit of the doubt. We watched with no expectations, and boy, it was anything but perky and comedic. The new Sabrina is dark, gory and infested with Satanic elements; everything your parents wouldn’t want you to get involved with.
It does somehow feel a bit Harry Potter-ish half way through since they too have a magic school where they learn spells, magical history, and have their fair share of demonic, other-worldy creatures.
IMDb rating: 7.9/10
#2 Narcos: Mexico
Narcos fans, if you’ve enjoyed the previous three seasons showcasing Columbia’s most notorious drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar, you’ll be glad to know that another edition of Narcos is back and this time, it takes place in Mexico. And if you’re just getting started, you don’t even have to watch any of the previous seasons as it will be a completely different storyline as Season 3 is set in the 1980s and about the Guadalajara cartel.
If you love some gangster drama, explosions, plenty of turf fights; this is for you.
IMDb rating: 8.8/10
#3 The Haunting of Hill House
This is one series horror buffs shouldn’t miss because we heard even the bravest gets creeped out and are having trouble sleeping after watching it. Laden with petrifying ghosts and anxiety-inducing plots, The Haunting of Hill House will probably give you nightmares as it tells the tale of a family who experienced a tonne of spooky things in the house.
And if you love Easter eggs in your shows, we heard there’s plenty of hidden ghosts planted in each episode, so you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled or else you’ll miss them.
IMDb rating: 8.9/10
#4 Death by Magic
This isn’t your ordinary magic show where the magician performs some novelty tricks to the public for their amusement. Instead, this show features British magician Drummond Money-Coutts (or known as DMC) where he travels the world attempting all the magic stunts that have killed magicians in the past. The show will be out in a few days, and just by looking at the trailer, we feel that it may have you on the edge of your seats.
Date of release: 30 November 2018
#5 The Christmas Chronicles
With November coming to an end, this means that half of the world are looking forward to one joyful celebration – Christmas. And Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a Christmas movie, right? 'The Christmas Chronicles' looks promising as it strays away from your typical, cheesy Santa persona.
Two siblings, one Santa-believer and one sceptic, embark on an experience of a lifetime when they accidentally bump into Santa and causes his sleigh to break. However, they are in for a shock as this Santa dunks his presents in the chimney, has some run-ins with the law, and tries to debunk every stereotypical myth that people believe in, including him saying “ho ho ho”.
Cast: Kurt Russell, Darby Camp, Judah Lewis
